BACKGROUND: After debuting his remarkable songwriting skills in the neo-country/pop outfit Scud Mountain Boys, Joe Pernice went on to form the Pernice Brothers, whose lushly orchestrated and sweetly despairing album (1998’s Overcome by Happiness) elicited comparisons to the Beach Boys, Big Star, Nick Drake, and the Zombies.
