As reported earlier today on Pitchfork, after their van broke down, Fleet Foxes were forced to cancel their Salt Lake City show scheduled for tonight, July 23rd. Luckily, they will be back in SLC on August 18th, opening for Wilco (details).
Not so luckily, this same non-functioning van will also cause the band to miss the in-store performance they have scheduled for 6:00 pm on Friday July 25th at Portland’s excellent Music Millennium . We are truly sorry to be the…

So that’s a pretty exciting bit of the future that you and I are experiencing together. In other future related news, we’ve made an attempt to set up a festival related video channel.
The friendly folks at Kyte have provided yours truly with a video enabled walkie-talkie—I, in turn, am able to broadcast video, from the festival (here at Marymoor park) directly to the internet.
I haven’t mastered the technology yet, but if you want to watch the results of…

As you may already know, the bands playing at SP20 got to choose a lucky organization to receive a donation from a portion of the proceeds from the festival. Woah, that was a mouthful and kind of confusing. I’m already tired from all the anniversary hoopla, so I’m even not going to make an attempt to make that sound smoother! Okay, so my point is, that in keeping with the spirit of giving, we want all you festival attendees to…

From the roof of Sub Pop HQ, we just watched the most unlikely of events. At 12PM sharp a flag bearing the venerable Sub Pop logo was hoisted by man and beast up the flagpole on the Space Needle! Not a pewter replica, mind you, but the actual building!
Apparently, they’ve also painted the top of the needle like a 7-inch stamp (much like this). But I’ll believe that when I see it. Anyone have a helicopter?
I’m not going to get…

MOJO is on newsstands this week with a big fat Sub Pop cover, a free CD (Sub Pop 300!) and lots more about the grunge days from these folks who filled out my silly questionnaires.
What Susan Silver (Grunge Band Manager Extraordinaire) Had To Say
- What is your current occupation? Band Manager and Mom
- Do people ever come up to you and ask for your autograph?
It has happened, which schocked the hell out of me. Japan…

OFFICIAL PRESS RELEASE - FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
GIRL TROUBLE PLAYS MARYMOOR PARK ANYWAY
As you may know, the first Girl Trouble album, “Hit It or Quit It”, was released on K/SubPop in 1988. In fact, this was the first full-length record SubPop ever released. The record matrix number was K/SP-20.
This month Sub Pop is hosting a huge, two-day concert of Sub Pop bands in Marymoor Park on July 12/13 to celebrate their 20 year anniversary. It’s billed as the SP-20 event, one…

Because we assumed that your Superfuzz Bigmuff shirt is getting pretty nasty from everyday abuse, we went ahead and made a new Mudhoney shirt for you! Yes, it’s that kind of market prediction that’s almost gotten us to where we’d hoped to be today. Designed by our own Jeff Kleinsmith, this t-shirt features artwork from The Lucky Ones, Mudhoney’s newest record.

Our otherwise mild-mannered Sub Pop offices were completely unable to contain our obscene levels of enthusiasm when these three brand new Flight of the Conchords t-shirts came in; and I’m only exaggerating a little bit! With these three remarkably designed t-shirts, you can be the envy of friends and strangers alike!
Eagerly awaiting your credit cards right here!

We are less than ten days away from our big self-congratulatory anniversary extravaganza at Marymoor Park and tempers are flaring here in the office. In fact, it seems that I hear the phrase, “No, why don’t YOU shut the fuck up and try planning this goddamn festival!” at least six to seven times a day, with those numbers steadily ramping up as we get closer to the big weekend. Despite the yelling and the door slamming everyone here is unbelievably…

On Monday 6/30 at 6pm the fine folks at Good Records will be hosting a FREE instore performance by No Age. That’s right, Randy and Dean will take a short break from watching themselves be all over MTV , to play for the fine music loving folks of Dallas for the princely sum of “good vibes”.
They’ll also be playing later that night at the Palladium Ballroom in Dallas.
Have at it.

Here is the second installment of the results from Grunge Summit 2008. I thought Tad Doyle (of TAD) and Chad Channing (of Nirvana’s early days) would be a good pair since I’m doing this in twos. Tadchad!
What Tad Doyle Had To Say
- What is your current occupation?
I am a bookkeper for Flux, Inc. I occupy space and displace air or water depending on where I am.

Today in Amarillo, TX Curtis Hall, drummer for Grand Archives, attempted the Free 72 oz Steak Dinner Challenge at The Big Texan Steak Ranch on I-40. Although Curtis made an admirable showing he only managed to put away 50 ounces—yes, THREE POUNDS!—of steak dinner in the alotted hour. Unfortunately for Curtis this means that his Free 72 oz Steak Dinner is really a $72 horrible fucking stomachache. Nice try—you’ll get ‘em next time. Grand Archives will be headed up the…

In May, a wonderous event occurred, informally known as Grunge Summit 2008. On a cloudy Seattle evening, Jack Endino, Bruce Pavitt, Jonathan Poneman, Megan Jasper, Mark Arm, Susan Silver, Chad Channing, Charles Peterson, Tad Doyle, Jeff Ament, and Kim Thayil all convened at the Sub Pop headquarters for the purpose of a MOJO interview, the result of which will be featured in the August issue on newsstands in early July. With so many grunge greats in one room, we decided…

Emily Khong of Vancouver couldn’t think of any “profound words of wisdom” for Sub Pop on it’s 20th birthday, so she enlisted the help of some 1st and 2nd grade kids. She gave them the assignment to redesign some of our band logos (is she trying to say that our art department isn’t good enough?). Anyway, I’m going to assume that it wasn’t Emily’s fault that a Death Cab For Cutie drawing was included in the package. I’ll let it…

In a bizarre turn of events, MTV will diverge from their winning programming formula combining chronicles of booger-eating, testicle-smashing and the lifestyles of wealthy, indolent children, by reintroducing daytime music video programming this summer, as well as premiering brand new videos every Friday evening as part of the soon-to-be-launched show “F’N MTV.” L.A.-based art punk band No Age has been chosen as one of the network’s “most talked about” artists, and will debut the video for its new single, “Eraser,”...

Hey Sub Pop!
I wasn’t sure where to send this so I just picked an e-mail I found on your site. I just wanted you to know that you hold the distinction of releasing the only CD I have bought all year, the Fleet Foxes EP Sun Giant. This week I have bought two more new albums, The Grand Archives and Fleet Foxes’ full length, both of which I…
