As you have hopefully already read elsewhere here on the Sub Pop Interweb Tendency, we’re 20 this year. And, we plan to make kind of a nuisance of ourselves about it. More so than usual, even.

To celebrate the label’s twentieth birthday, Sub Pop will release a series of re-issues starting with Mudhoney’s Superfuzz Bigmuff: Deluxe Edition (which, like their brand new album The Lucky Ones , comes out May 20, 2008), launch a limited run of the Sub Pop Singles Club (more on that soon-ish), and throw a series of over-the-top birthday parties for itself this summer.

Herewith the scoop on these birthday parties:

with…

David Cross
Patton Oswalt
Eugene Mirman
Todd Barry
And Kristen Schaal will be hosting!

I wonder when.....

they will post the exact times which bands are playing.

by Barleycorn @ 18 May 23:58

Shins?

Any idea if the Shins might be making an appearance? That would be the cherry on top of this rock sundae.

by the pope of chilitown @ 21 May 11:21

Your tickets and you

Hi Ticket Buyers,
Firstly, allow me to apologize for the delay and/or confusion in your ticket purchases; we indeed should have explained when you should expect your tickets. Please accept our infinite apologies regarding this manner. We will be mailing the remainder of the tickets out this week.

Thanks folks,

Line-up final?

Just wondering if we could get a hint as when to expect the final additions to the line-up.

p.s. Getting very excited!

Do kids need a ticket

I’m trying to determine if children are going to need tickets to the festival. The Marymoor FAQ says it “depends on the show”. Does anyone have info. about this?

by JRM @ 27 May 14:28

MURDER CITY DEVILS

Please make this happen…

by SmashedBlocked @ 27 May 16:51

Kids Need a ticket if they are over the age of 3

The Marymoor FAQ is a little confusing as to whether kids need tickets. In one section it says:

“Do children have to have tickets?

That depends on the show. Yes, tickets are required for children three years and older attending a regular concert performance.”

And then, elsewhere (under the “Purchasing Tickets” header), it says:

“ALL patrons three years or older must be ticketed for our shows outside of the family priced series.”

Since SP20 is not a “family priced series,” I take this to mean that everyone attending who is three or older will need a ticket, regardless of the “that depends on the show” bit. And that means that three is the cut-off. So, kids would have to be younger than three (aka 2 or 1 or even less than that) to get in for free. But, I’ll double-check on that this week and post here with something as close to definitive as I’m able to muster.

Until further notice, assume that anyone who is 3 or older and who wants to get in (or who you want to get in) to SP20 will need a ticket.

by chrisj @ 27 May 19:44

Afghan Whigs

I’d give $100 to Sub Pop’s favorite charity if you could get the Boy’s from Cincinnati to reunite for the fest!!

by DinoFan @ 29 May 13:14

what time do the shows start?

couldn’t find the times anywhere…

by ninau @ 01 Jun 09:36

SDRE

Hi Subpop, wouldn’t this be a perfect occasion to reunite Sunny Day Real Estate and let them play? Other bands that would be good to see are e.g.:
Afghan Whigs
Soundgarden
Sleater Kinney
Love Battery

Would be huge if you can motivate one or the other to play at least a one-off thing at the SP20. Great stuff going on there!

by reggler @ 01 Jun 13:45

what about...

6 finger satellite? sebadoh? wolf eyes? j&mc? dwarves?

by Limited Appeal @ 02 Jun 15:23

Yeahhh

Just ordered my tickets, and I’m also coming from Toronto. Ahahah. Woohoo!

by la_snot @ 02 Jun 18:15

Rein Sanction

Put Rein Sanction on the bill and I’ll fly out from Philadelphia.

by J3L8 @ 06 Jun 09:18

Are the Shins performing?

Are they? When

by gaylor @ 09 Jun 22:35

No Shins

The Shins are not performing at SP20.

by chrisj @ 10 Jun 10:24

too bad

No Shins ) :? Are there still plans to add more bands to the lineup?

by Grandpa Green @ 10 Jun 13:38

Yeah it is too bad

We wish The Shins were playing, too! But, unfortunately, they’re not. There are still a couple of bands that have yet to be announced.

by chrisj @ 10 Jun 16:38

No worries

The line-up is already crazy good.

Are there going to be multiple stages or is it a one band after another situation?

by Grandpa Green @ 11 Jun 09:53

The Fluid and Friends

Good to see you guys out again. Tear the place down boys. Sorry the tuch and I wont be there to sing backups.

Hey Bob, tell us that story bout apple head the cat again. oh, and you were right my bro did look like that roadie for Mettalica.

Have fun ya’ll
Junior

by Jr Tuch @ 12 Jun 23:32

Open letter to Soundgarden

Dear Chris, Kim, Hiro and Matt,

If any of you have been checking this site, please reunite for this show. Even if you’d just play ‘Screaming Life’ in it’s entirety, with perhaps a few of the other early tunes (i.e. “Sub Pop Rock City,” “Heretic,” “All Your Lies”), I’m sure people would be ecstatic. Plus, that early stuff’s all in standard tuning, right? That means there would be no need for re-learning all of the additional tunings and lugging along extra guitars. I’m sure the older crowd wouldn’t mind having it’s remaining hair blown off it’s heads by the volcanic guitar riffs of Kim and the high-pitched wails of Chris!

Thanks!

by Steve H @ 13 Jun 10:26

RAPEMAN REUNION

I’m sure if you ask really nicely, you can get Steve Albini to reunite RAPEMAN for your little festival. Hell, he reunited BIG BLACK for 4 songs at the TOUCH AND GO RECORDS 25th Anniversary celebration. Now make the call. And remember, be really, really nice.

Other bands to ask: AFGHAN WHIGS, BLOOD CIRCUS, CAT BUTT, DICKLESS, SKIN YARD, SWALLOW & TAD

by satan @ 13 Jun 15:53

What about Europe?

It would be nice to see an extension of SP 2Oth anniversary fest in Europe. Don’t really care where, as long as I don’t have to pay those freakishly expensive transatlantic air rates to fly to the US… Europe, please!!!

by oaktree @ 13 Jun 17:13

yes, europe...

eh, yes, a new edition of lamefest in europe, please…

by Puck @ 15 Jun 05:15

20 th show

Where are the fruitbats?? Please include the Fruitbats!

by casidy @ 16 Jun 12:05

5ive Style, Red House Painters, Kelley Stoltz

Kelley Stoltz is currently on the roster, so I hope he can make it. If you can convince Red House Painters or 5ive Style to reunite—if only for a moment—you will have done a great service.

by Texas Prairie Chicken @ 16 Jun 20:53

What time do they go on?

Is there anyway to find out what the times are for each band? We are flying in from Ohoenix and there are certain bands we don’t want to miss.
If you can help me out let me know.

Suznne

by suzy65 @ 17 Jun 16:50

They just announced a tour, and are playing Seattle very close to SP20. I wonder if they could jump on the bill. Just another thought

Alright maybe I am getting a little obsessive.

by Grandpa Green @ 18 Jun 15:58

Friday, July 11 - music-related events?

I know that the comedy show is taking place at the Moore Theatre, however, I was wondering if there will be any smaller Sub Pop music-related shows at any of the local venues that night (i.e. The Central, Re-bar, Crocodile Cafe, etc.)? Thanks!

by Steve H @ 19 Jun 09:51

Sunny Day Real Estate!

Hello, i just got my tickets in the mail, and i’m extremely excited.
To peak my excitment even further, you should ask Sunny Day Real Estate to play. Maybe if you ask them pretty pretty please they might do it. I got to see Sunny Day play once, and it was the record release show for “the rising tide” which, I think, was the last time they played seattle. I was only 17 at the time and it was amazing.
If you can get them to reunite it would make my summer

by TheRescueBlues @ 20 Jun 11:07

Death Vessel

Looks like Death Vessel has been added. They are listed on the beneficiaries page. Unless this is a separate event?

by Grandpa Green @ 22 Jun 15:54

Death Vessel and Jul. 11th

Death Vessel isn’t scheduled to play at SP20 out at Marymoor, but they will be playing with Les Thugs at Neumo’s on Friday, Jul 11th. This show is free. And everyone involved in any of the anniversary events gets to participate in donating a share of the proceeds to a charity of their choice. So, there are bands/artists/comedians on the beneficiaries page who won’t necessarily be playing out at Marymoor.

Also, this: www.subpop.com/sp20

by chrisj @ 24 Jun 09:47

thanks

Alright good to see the set times! I’m guessing two alternating stages to eliminate setup time? I’d would also guess the remaining TBAs will be less established groups since they are opening this motha up.

Exciting stuff!

by Grandpa Green @ 24 Jun 10:17

guessing game

Anyone want to try and guess who the last three TBAs will be.

I’ll guess Oxford Collapse, The Thermals, and Chad VanGaalen.

Although if you guys want to get Zumpano together I would be ok with that too.

by Grandpa Green @ 26 Jun 14:09

Wipers

It would be awesome to see The Wipers, or at least Greg Sage, as one of the remaining acts to perform at the festival. What might be even cooler would be Greg Sage backed by Krist Novoselic and Dave or Chad for a Wipers/Nirvana tribute set, since the latter was inspired by them. Of course, since there are only two weeks that remain before the shows, I’m sure this wouldn’t be a possibility though. Well, I can keep dreaming! How about for the 25th anniversary?

Another band that would be great to see in one of the remaining slots would have to be Swallow.

by Steve H @ 27 Jun 14:43

festival/gutter twins

Is it even possible to attend both the festival and the Gutter Twins gig on Saturday? Festival ends at 10 and the show is scheduled to start at 10 as well… will you beam us over or what?

by lamestain81 @ 28 Jun 02:54

Would you please share the times each band will be playing? 12pm-10pm is a huge window of time.

They already have the set times posted. http://www.subpop.com/sp20/line_up

It also seems that the Sunday ends at 9:00.

by Grandpa Green @ 28 Jun 09:55

see you all soon

This is already going to be an amazing weekend, all the TBAs will surely just be icing on the cake.. But dammit, with all these bands reuniting TAD should play this! It would be cool if Dead Moon played as well.

by nightgoat @ 28 Jun 21:44

Thanks, Grandpa Green!

by dugtown1 @ 29 Jun 09:59

Rapeman. No way.

Anyone hoping for a Rapeman reunion will be disappointed I’m sure. I was at the Touch & Go 25th when Scratch Acid and Big Black played the same stage about 2 hours apart. They didn’t play when all three were there, I can’t imagine this will be any different. I hear Albini and Washam aren’t friendly.

???

“The Marymoor concert site has a capacity of around 4,500. That number consists of approximately 1700 reserved seats and space for 2,800 people on the lawn.”

Reserved seats?

by Grandpa Green @ 10 Jul 16:25

No Reserved Seats, and Camera Cops

The show is “General Admission, No Seating”.

Sure would be nice to have SP give us a definitive answer on cameras. Can one obtain a photo pass? There obviously will be cameras there. It’s just a matter of what size and type. A small pocket camera can still exceed 7 megapixels, and shoot video, so sneaking one in would be easy as pie.

With that said, the question really is, what will the crowd cops do if fans want pics and vid of their favorite bands? It would be a shame to not let the people have their fun, AND document the awesome festival without being policed.
