Hollow Earth Radio's 1st Annual Local Label Record Sale!!! - Sasha Sarene

5147

Almost two years ago, my sister and her boyfriend started an online radio station called Hollow Earth, featuring “found sound, field recordings, story-telling (sometimes paranormal), dream-collecting, radio plays, live house shows and local in-home performances.” In addition to creating an eccentric online station for people to listen to from the comfort of their homes, they have held some pretty cool events in Seattle to foster a sense of community (Magma Fest) and to promote local musicians, whilst raising money to fund programming (shameless sister promotion blah blah blah).

On December 6th at Healthy Times Fun Club in Seattle, Hollow Earth is hosting yet another rad event—their First Annual Local Label Record Sale and DIY Craft Fair. Over 20 local labels will set up booths to sell their wares, and bands will play for the entirety of the event. Sub Pop and our much-loved label pal Hardly Art will share a table along with employee Lacey Swain’s own Haunted Horse Records. Come! Listen to music! Buy local!

Record sale is from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. and turns into an evening show thereafter, with a $5 suggested donation at the door.

Go here to see the flyer and band lineup.

First! Annual?

The Grammar Police came to me in my head and said, “How can it be first and annual?” Sorry about the Cheap, ahem, Trick reference, but it can’t be deemed annual until next year’s awesome fair! I hate to be the grammar d-bag, but someone has to put an end to misusing “first annual.” Regardless, I hope this is a stupendous debut event!

hm

by including “annual” in the title, it implies this isn’t a one time event, that it will happen in years to come. that is my interpretation.

Sasha is in the Right

“Annual” typically descibes something that happens once a year… so by saying “First Annual” it denotes that this event is happening for the first time and will probably be held every year… if she were to have said “First Bi-weekly” or “First Monthly” it would then happen more frequently.

You can't assume it

You can’t assume it will happen next year, so “inaugural” is the word to use. When—and if—it happens next year, “second annual” applies.
Don’t get me started on when to use “over” and “more than” ... I’ve been a journo dude for more than 20 years, AP style will rule—or ruin—your life!
Cheers
